The George Washington University’s Face the Facts USA Announces Partnership with McClatchy-Tribune Information Service
Face the Facts USA and McClatchy-Tribune to Distribute Myth-Busting Facts

WASHINGTON - The George Washington University’s Face the Facts USA announced today that it is partnering with McClatchy-Tribune Information Services (MCT) to distribute provocative, myth-busting facts to MCT News Service clients. Produced by George Washington’s School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA), Face the Facts USA is a nonpartisan, independently-funded initiative dedicated to elevating the tone of national debate with compelling facts.
"I believe this project is resonating across the country because people are hungry for facts and we're providing them in a memorable and creative manner,” said Frank Sesno, director of GW’s SMPA. “Face the Facts USA is all about indisputable fact, mined from primary sources and based at a university where research is of paramount importance. During a time when facts seem to be cast aside in our larger political debate, this project is elevating the discussion with the plain truth. That a widely respected organization like McClatchy saw fit to distribute our content is both thrilling and affirming."
MCT News Service clients can now offer their readers an innovative new feature that strips away the charges and countercharges of the political campaign to focus on the facts. Seven days a week, MCT clients can offer their print and online readers an important fact from Face the Facts USA in text or graphic form. Some examples:
- The value of Social Security benefits keeps rising – while the number of workers per recipient keeps falling.
- The federal government was on track in 2012 to deport more parents of legal American children than were deported in the prior ten years added together.
- Health care costs for the Department of Defense have nearly tripled in the last decade, from $19 billion in 2001 to $53 billion in 2011.

Each fact is delivered as a brief text item with a small accompanying graphic, as well as a standalone graphic. Either version is suitable for print or online use. Each Monday, MCT clients will receive an embargoed list of facts to be released the following week, giving them time to develop local sidebars to run alongside the fact. Once published, the facts can also stimulate reader discussion in print and online.
