GW 2017 Inauguration Activities

A series of events will be held at “the most politically active campus” in the country in the days leading up to and after the 58th Presidential Inauguration. Members of the news media are invited to attend the following events:
Huffington Post DNC Chair Debate - Wednesday, January 18
Generation Progress Action and George Washington University College Democrats host “We Are Progress” resistance boot camp – Friday, January 20
Generation Progress Action will host “We Are Progress,” a first-of-its-kind training summit to equip progressive millennials with issue- and skill-based strategies to mount an effective resistance to the Donald J. GW Inaugural Ball – Friday, January 20 
GW will host an Inaugural Ball for students, staff, faculty and alumni. Every four years since 1993, GW has hosted an Inaugural Ball to celebrate the Presidential Inauguration. This longstanding tradition is a reflection of its diverse student population coming together for an event that epitomizes the phrase, “Only at GW.” The ball is the only university-sponsored ball in the District of Columbia on inauguration night. Media interested in covering the event, must RSVP to Kurie Fitzgerald at or 202-994-6461 by noon on Thursday, Jan. 19. Credentials will be confirmed by COB Thursday. Media who have not pre-RSVP’d will not be allowed in because of security restrictions.  
“Future President” Baby Bibs at GW Hospital – Friday, January 20
The university will also be running a promotion related to the inauguration. Any
babies born at the GW Hospital on inauguration, President’s Weekend (February 17-20) and on George Washington’s Birthday (February 22) will receive a GW branded bib that says “Future President.”
GW College Democrats Annual Winter Ball – Saturday, January 21
The GW College Democrats will host a winter ball to benefit Planned Parenthood and to celebrate the legacy of President Barack Obama. 
GW Chronicles the Inauguration on Social Media – Friday, January 20
The university will feature GW-related inauguration content throughout the day via #GWInaugural. During the inauguration ceremony, several members of the College Republicans will take over the university’s Snapchat account. The “We Are Progress” event and the GW Inaugural Ball will also be captured on GW’s social media pages. 
Campus operations impacted by the inauguration – Thursday, January 19 to Saturday, January 21 
GW also has expert faculty members available to discuss the history and symbolism of the U.S. presidency and presidential inaugurations, as well as the logistics and security involved with such large-scale events:
