William F. Howard, deputy general counsel of The George Washington University, has accepted a position as Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Counsel for the Medical School at Washington University in St. Louis. Howard will begin his new duties in January 2008.

"I am deeply grateful to Bill for his long and dedicated service to the university, and particularly for stepping into the role of Interim Vice President and General Counsel following the retirement last winter of Dennis Blumer," said GW President Steven Knapp. "On behalf of all of us, I congratulate him on his appointment as chief counsel to one of the finest medical institutions in the country."

"After 11 years at GW, I am blessed with the opportunity to make a substantial change while staying within my beloved higher education legal community," said Howard. "I appreciate all of the wonderful opportunities GW has afforded me. It has been both challenging and rewarding. My sincere thanks to the many friends and colleagues who have been so supportive throughout my tenure. I wish President Knapp and the university great success in the coming years."
