University Statement: Report of Sexual Assault Incident

August 28, 2014

On August 28, a student reported being sexually assaulted by another student at a privately-owned house occupied by the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Upon receiving the student’s report, GW’s Police Department issued Safety and Security Alerts that informed the campus community of the incident. GWPD also contacted Metropolitan Police Department, who is now the lead agency in this investigation.

GW takes all allegations of sexual assault very seriously. The university will be working with Phi Sigma Kappa’s national headquarters to conduct a thorough investigation. We do not have an update regarding any charges or sanctions. GW’s Sexual Assault Response Consultative team is providing information and support to the student who contacted GWPD.

More information about the university’s Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Policy and Procedures and Sexual Assault Resources are available online.

Please contact MPD for additional information regarding any criminal investigation.
