Evidence session: Fake news and misinformation                                    

Thursday, 8th February 2018 at George Washington University, Washington DC

This oral evidence session is part of the Committee’s inquiry into Fake news and misinformation.

This is the first ever live broadcast, public hearing of a House of Commons select committee outside of the United Kingdom. It will be a formal proceeding of the UK Parliament. A transcript of the proceedings will be available later via the Official Report/Hansard.

As advertised previously, the Committee is to visit the US in February 2018. The Committee programme will include a number of private meetings with tech and media companies in New York before travelling to Washington DC and taking oral evidence in public session. The George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management and School of Media and Public Affairs will host the public evidence session for the Committee.

Important: media pre-registration

Any media wishing to cover the public session must pre-register interest by emailing Lucy Dargahi: [email protected] with their details. There will a set number of places reserved for media allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Chair and members of the Committee will be available for interview including broadcast clips, at the press conference on Thursday evening at 16.00.

It is possible to pre-register for individual sessions or the entire programme but you must indicate your preference to attend the press conference.

The session will be streamed live and made available to broadcasters. Arrangements will be confirmed in due course and distributed by media advisory note.
