EVENT: 
Gilberto Gil, a lauded singer, guitarist and composer with more than 50 years of experience, 30 albums and more than 5 million records sold, has played a key role in promoting and modernizing Brazilian popular music and culture. Mr. Gil will perform songs off his newest album, "Gilbertos Samba,” which includes classics by João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra and Caetano Veloso. Gilbertos Samba revisits Mr. Gil's early days as a bossa nova musician with contemporary reinterpretations influenced by his career as a central figure in Brazilian music.

BACKGROUND: 
Mr. Gil has tackled a wide variety of issues pertinent to modern reality in his lyrics, including social inequality, the racial question, African and oriental culture, science and religion. The mastery with which Mr. Gil explores these subjects makes him one of the greatest Brazilian lyricists.
