FAQ from Thursday, May 1, 2024

Why did the House Oversight Committee visit GW campus yesterday? Also, did President Granberg meet with DC Mayor Muriel Bowser? What was said in these meetings?

Over the last several days, President Ellen M. Granberg has met with both city and Congressional officials regarding the ongoing protest activities on our campus.

Since Thursday, April 25, GW and city officials have remained in close contact. On Tuesday, President Granberg and Mayor Bowser met to discuss the situation.

On Wednesday, representatives of the House Oversight Committee visited the campus to see the ongoing protest activity on GW’s University Yard. University officials met with the group in advance of their tour to inform the delegation about the current state of the demonstration and how GW has responded thus far. University officials reaffirmed their commitment to the safety of all students, freedom of speech, accountability for those who have violated university policy, and stability on the campus so students can complete their academic requirements and attend their graduation ceremonies. Following the meeting, the representatives continued to H Street on their own to hold a press conference.
