WASHINGTON (April 15, 2026) - George Washington University’s Graduate Program in Publishing will host the 3rd Student Journal Symposium for Literary and Research Publications, a two-day hybrid event designed to create community and dialogue around student-led journals on areas of common concern and interest.

The symposium will feature nearly 75 speakers from 35 student-led journals from 30 universities, including literary, research, specialized, and law publications, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Participants include students, faculty, administrators, librarians and others involved and interested in student publishing.

At last year’s 2nd annual Symposium, 73 representatives from 34 undergraduate and graduate student journals from 28 universities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom participated. This year, organizers expect 35 student journals from 30 universities, with continued participation from students, faculty, librarians, and publishing professionals.

“Many universities recognize the importance of student research and creativity, and student-led journals provide opportunities to publish the results of student research and creative projects,” says John W. Warren, Director of GW’s Publishing program and founder of the Symposium. “Student journals often face similar challenges, such as succession and sustainability, funding, and community outreach. The Student Journal Symposium seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration among undergraduate and graduate student-led journals, elevating best practices and awareness of these important publications.”
