Joann Weiner, director of the GW Master of Arts in Applied Economics, specializes in economic policy, public economics, tax policy and applied microeconomics. Her research explores how companies choose to replace workers with machines; how consumer theory applies in real world situations, such as surge pricing in the ride-sharing economy; and how game theory and behavioral economics may help explain the causes and consequences of the recent financial crisis in Greece.
