WASHINGTON (May 11, 2023)- Arlington National Cemetery announced starting May 1, 2023 the U.S. Army military horses will not be serving as escorts during funeral processions for 45 days. The herd’s temporary vacation is in honor to “prioritize the health of the herd”. There has long been discussion of how animal rights play in the modern day working system and the United States Military.

Dean Hessler has been teaching animal law for over two decades and serves as the inaugural dean for Animal Legal Education at the George Washington University Law School. Hessler currently serves on the board of the Center for Teaching Peace and is a fellow at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics. Through her career, Hessler helped found the Animal Law Committee of the Cuyahoga County Bar, served as chair and founder of the Animal Law Section and the Balance in Legal Education Section of the American Association of Law Schools, and served as a co-chair of the Clinical Legal Education Sections of the AALS.

Gwendolyn Vercher. Hessler’s expertise has also been quoted  in regards to the 2022 SCOTUS Case  National Pork Producers Council v. Ross set to be decided in June, 2023.
