Media Tip Sheet: EPA Revokes the Endangerment Finding

GW expert can discuss the impact from human health to climate change

February 12, 2026

WASHINGTON (Feb. 12, 2026)-The  White House announced today that the EPA would rescind the legal finding that has been used to limit pollution from vehicles, oil refineries and factories. The repeal of the “endangerment finding” will disrupt most US policies aimed at curbing climate change, according to news reports.

The EPA made the determination despite concerns raised by scientists who have studied the issue. Last year, 114 scientists who are part of a working group on climate change and health submitted comments to the EPA on the move to end the endangerment finding. The working group concluded that greenhouse gas emissions “pose a clear and indisputable danger to human health and well-being.”

Also In 2025, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine released a report that concluded that the evidence for harm to human health created by greenhouse gases is beyond dispute.

Lynn R. Goldman is available to comment on the recent action by the EPA. Goldman is a professor of environmental and occupational health and former Dean of the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. She is a pediatrician, epidemiologist, a nationally known environmental health expert and previously served as an assistant administrator for Toxic Substances at the EPA, overseeing the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.
