Media Tip Sheet: The Future of Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats

November 17, 2022

Nancy Pelosi’s two-decade run as House Democratic leader will soon come to a close. The current Speaker of the House announced she would not seek re-election for House Democratic leader. Pelosi will continue to represent the same San Francisco district she has served since 1987, but her level of influence in a new Congress is still uncertain.

Casey Burgat, assistant professor and director of the Legislative Affairs program in the GW Graduate School of Political Management, and GW political science professor Sarah Binder are available to analyze Pelosi’s announcement from multiple angles. They can look back on her historic tenure in Congress and look ahead to what the future holds for Pelosi and her party’s congressional caucus. They can also offer insight into the leading candidates to replace Pelosi atop the House Democratic totem pole.
