Media Tip Sheet: Georgia Investigation Into Trump's 2020 Election Interference

February 15, 2023

A Georgia judge is slated to release portions of a grand jury report that should shed some light on the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s alleged meddling in the 2020 election in the Peach State. The investigation centers on Trump’s possible involvement in recruiting bogus electors and demanding that Georgia’s secretary of state find thousands of votes for Trump that did not exist. Although the judge will not reveal the grand jury’s recommendations for indictment, he will make public the introduction and conclusion of the report, as well as concerns expressed by the grand jury about witnesses committing perjury.

GW faculty experts are available to discuss the legal and political implications of the Georgia grand jury’s report.

Stephen Saltzburg, professor of law and former Justice Department official, is an expert on criminal law, evidence, procedure, and litigation who can comment on the criminal procedures of the grand jury report.

Todd Belt, professor and director of the GSPM Political Management master’s program, is an expert on the presidency who can comment on the impact the Georgia investigation could have on Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
