Media Tip Sheet: GW Dermatologist Leads Breakthrough in CBD Skincare Innovation

July 24, 2025

CBD in skincare was once everywhere but it quickly gained a reputation as more trend than science. That’s now changing, thanks to new translational research led by Adam Friedman, Chair of Dermatology at George Washington University.

In collaboration with CielelementsMD®, Friedman helped develop a new, stabilized form of CBD called CannaXR, now featured in the brand’s DNA Defense Daily Cream. Unlike earlier versions of CBD in skincare, this formulation penetrates deep into the skin and remains active for up to six hours - providing unprecedented protection against UVA damage.

The cream, which was tested in a peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, has been shown to help prevent DNA mutations linked to premature aging and skin cancer.
