October 2, 2025

WASHINGTON (October 2, 2025) – With the passing of Jane Goodall, the world is reflecting on her groundbreaking work with wild chimpanzees and her enduring influence on primatology, conservation, and the public understanding of animal behavior.

For expert insight on Goodall’s legacy, please consider professor Carson Murray, associate professor of anthropology at the George Washington University. Professor Murray is a primate behavioral ecologist whose research focuses on the adaptive value of social relationships, both behavioral and biochemical, among chimpanzees, as well as the effects of maternal stress and behavior on offspring. She worked with Jane Goodall and conducted field research at Gombe, Tanzania for 25 years. Gombe is where Goodall began her pioneering study of wild chimpanzees in 1960.
