Media Tip Sheet: GW Expert Available to Discuss Mandy Cohen's Appointment as CDC Director

WASHINGTON (June 16, 2023)—On Friday President Joe Biden named Mandy Cohen as the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cohen, an internal medicine physician, served as health secretary in North Carolina from 2017-2021, where she was front and center of the state's COVID-19 response. Cohen may be the last CDC director to be appointed without Senate confirmation, as Congressional approval will be required for the director position starting in January 2025.
