WASHINGTON (September 13, 2023)—New pressures from conservatives have emerged  for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who  announced on Tuesday that he is calling for a formal impeachment inquiry on President Biden. McCarthy said, “These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption. They warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives. That’s why today I am directing our House to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”

Matt Dallek, professor of political management, is a political historian at GW’s School of Political Management. Casey Burgat is the Legislative Affairs Program Director and Assistant Professor at George Washington University. He is an expert in Congress and Judiciary sections, congressional capacity and reform.

Todd Belt is professor and director of the political management master’s program at the Graduate School of Political Management. He can discuss the political implications surrounding the impeachment inquiry.

Peter Loge is the director of the GW School of Media and Public Affairs.
