WASHINGTON (September 9, 2025)- According to results released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Education high school seniors' test scores have dropped to the lowest level in decades. Results showed 45 percent of seniors scored “below basic” in math and nearly 1in 3 seniors were also below basic in reading. With the influence of social media and smartphones, many students are not expected to be ready to do college-level work by graduation.
Experts at the George Washington University are available to provide context and analysis of these developments. To speak with an expert please contact Skyler Sales as skylersgwu [dot] edu (skylers[at]gwu[dot]edu).
