The embattled Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) has turned himself in to federal authorities after being charged with wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and making false statements to Congress. Santos has been much lampooned for telling outlandish lies about his life story. Federal prosecutors appear to be far more interested in a string of accusations ranging from suspicious campaign finance reports to stealing crowdfunded donations for a veteran’s ailing service dog.
Casey Burgat is the director of the Legislative Affairs master’s program at the GW Graduate School of Political Management. He can comment on the wild twists and turns of the George Santos saga and discuss the beleaguered congressman’s present and future on Capitol Hill.
