WASHINGTON(December 18, 2023)--A few weeks ago federal officials approved gene therapy for sickle cell disease. From USA Today, “Federal officials Friday approved two gene therapy treatments for sickle cell disease, welcome news for tens of thousands with the inherited blood disorder that causes terrible pain crises and early death.”

Sonia Suter

Sonia Suter is The Henry St. George Tucker III Dean’s Research Professor of Law; The Kahan Family Research Professor of Law; and Founding Director, Health Law Initiative at the George Washington University Law School. Suter’s research focuses at the intersection of law, medicine and bioethics, with a particular focus on ethical and legal issues in genetics. She is an internationally recognized expert in genetics and the law and assisted reproductive technologies. Prior to law school, she earned a master’s degree and achieved PhD candidacy in human genetics from the University of Michigan.
