Media Tip Sheet: Lung Cancer Awareness Month

November 11, 2024

November is lung cancer awareness month and according to the American Cancer Society, nearly 130,000 lives are lost each year to lung cancer.

Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, responsible for 80-90% of deaths. However, lung cancer can affect people with no smoking history due to genetics, environment or occupation.

Sora Ely at the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates is a thoracic surgeon who treats benign and malignant pathologies of the chest and foregut. Her clinical interests include lung cancer screening, treatment of lung and esophageal cancer, treatment of mediastinal masses including thymoma, and benign foregut surgery including hiatal hernia.

She is available to discuss the warning signs of lung cancer and risks. To schedule an interview with Sora Ely, please contact Katelyn Deckelbaum at [email protected].
