April 6, 2023

WASHINGTON (April 6, 2023)--Two concurrent outbreaks of the Marburg virus in Africa have raised concerns about this pathogen that kills as many as 90% of the people it infects. The World Health Organization has called  on the West African country of Equatorial Guinea to do a better job of reporting cases there due to fears that the virus is spreading rapidly. There is no treatment or vaccine for Marburg, which has raised fears about these outbreaks and the global ability to curb another pandemic.

The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health has an expert available to comment on the various aspects of the current outbreaks as well as other emerging disease threats. Please contact Kathy Fackelmann, [email protected] for an interview or additional information.
