Media Tip Sheet: National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March 18, 2025

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal Cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the United States.

One in 24 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime, but it’s highly preventable with screening.

The American Cancer Society recommends that people at average risk start regular screening at age 45.

Matthew Ng is board certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery at the George Washington University Cancer Center. He is also an assistant clinical professor of surgery at the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He can discuss the importance of preventable screenings.

If you would like to schedule an interview with Matthew Ng, please contact Katelyn Deckelbaum, [email protected].
