Media Tip Sheet: Netflix And Warner Bros Merger Deal Causes Possible Actions From Other Companies And White House

December 8, 2025

WASHINGTON (December 8, 2025) – Netflix announced Friday that they will purchase Warner Bros. Discovery’s film studio, HBO, and the streaming service HBO Max. If the deal is approved, Netflix would get access to films and shows in the Warner Bros. The deal has also caused actions from other companies including Paramount, who also placed a bid in for the company. The White House has also shared their concerns and has stated they plan to be involved in the deal.

Experts at the George Washington University are available to provide context and analysis on these developments.

Peter Loge is an associate professor at the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs. Professor Loge has over 30 years of experience in politics and communications. He currently leads the Project on Ethics in Political Communication at the School of Media and Public Affairs.

"A risk of media consolidation is that fewer points of view will make it to the marketplace of ideas on which democracy relies," Loge said.
