Media Tip Sheet: Ozempic Babies On The Rise

April 3, 2024

Pregnancy

Women are getting pregnant, in most cases unintentionally, they say, while taking these weight loss medications despite being on birth control or dealing with years of fertility issues.

For years, medications like Ozempic have been known to treat diabetes, with weight loss being a side effect. Recent versions of the injections, like Wegovy, were FDA approved for people struggling with obesity.

Facebook groups, Reddit threads and TikTok videos are connecting women who are pregnant with or already had an “Ozempic baby” as they have come to be called, and want to share their surprise pregnancy experiences.

The George Washington University has experts available to discuss how these medications could boost fertility, if they make birth control less effective and the important information women should know.
