WASHINGTON (August 5, 2025)- Texas Republicans have been pushing to redraw the state’s congressional maps to create more Republican House seats, in an effort to help the GOP retain control of the chamber in next year's midterm elections. This plan has caused Democrats in Texas’ House to leave the state on Sunday to prevent the vote on the plan. Governor Greg Abbott has demanded they return or risk losing their elected positions or the possibility of being arrested.
