WASHINGTON (May 7, 2026) – Reports indicate that more than 30,000 cubic yards of debris and soil excavated during the demolition of the White House East Wing were dumped at East Potomac Golf Links. Testing on the soil later detected levels of lead, chromium, PCBs, pesticides, petroleum byproducts, and other toxic substances that were above laboratory reporting limits.
Robert Glicksman, a nationally recognized expert on environmental, natural resources, and administrative law, is available to discuss the environmental and public health implications of dumping contaminated material on public land.
Lynn R. Goldman is a professor of environmental and occupational health and the former Dean of the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health. She is a pediatrician, epidemiologist, a nationally known environmental health expert and previously served as an assistant administrator for Toxic Substances at the EPA, overseeing the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention. She can talk about the hazards of water contamination when it comes to health.
