Media Tip Sheet: US Birth Rate Falls to a Record Low

According to the CDC, the U.S. birth rate fell in 2023, hitting a record low that we haven’t seen in more than a century.

The data shows the number of births in 2023 was the lowest since 1979.

The recently released report also shows there was a decline in births for women ages 20-39 years old with women getting pregnant older in life. A number of factors play a role including economic and social challenges prompting women to delay having children.
