Media Tip Sheet: U.S. - China Trade Talk Outcome

The United States and China de-escalated the ongoing trade war by agreeing to reduce tariffs on each other's goods. This announcement came in a joint statement released Monday morning.

For a 90 day period, the U.S. will lower its tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China will cut its tariffs on American imports from 125% to 10%.

International Affairs

Bruce Dickson is a professor of political science and international affairs at the GW Elliott School of International Affairs. Dickson is an expert on U.S.-China relations, Chinese domestic politics, regimes and regime changes, and general comparative politics.

Business

Rodney Lake is a teaching instructor of finance and the director of the GW Investment Institute at the GW School of Business. Lake oversees GW Investment Institute’s day-to-day operations. Prior to Lake’s current appointment, he worked as a senior investment officer in the GW Investment Office and was previously a senior financial analyst in the Executive Vice President and Treasurer’s Office at GW.

Legal

Donald Clarke is the David Weaver Research Professor of Law at George Washington University Law School. Clarke is an expert in Chinese Law. He specializes in Comparative Law on Chinese criminal law, procedure to corporate governance, and legal issues presented by China’s economic reforms. In addition, Clarke founded Chinalaw, the leading Internet listserv on Chinese law.
