Media Tip Sheet: USDA Testing Beef for Bird Flu

April 30, 2024

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will begin testing beef for bird flu as the virus continues to spread.

According to the agency the testing will consist of sampling ground beef bought in grocery stores. The testing will center around beef especially sold in states where dairy cattle have tested positive for the H5NI virus.

The USDA stresses the testing does not mean beef products are unsafe.
