Media Tip Sheet: What’s at Stake as RFK Jr. Orders First Baby Formula Overhaul in 30 Years

October 20, 2025

For the first time in nearly three decades, the federal government is reevaluating what goes into the baby formula that feeds three out of four American infants.

Under “Operation Stork Speed,” HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has ordered the FDA to review the ingredients, nutrient requirements, and contaminant testing standards for infant formula — a move that could reshape how every formula sold in the U.S. is made and regulated.

Faculty experts at the George Washington University are available to offer insight about what’s driving the formula review. To schedule an interview with an expert, please contact Katelyn Deckelbaum, katelyn [dot] deckelbaumatgwu [dot] edu (katelyn[dot]deckelbaum[at]gwu[dot]edu).
