Media Tip Sheet: FDA Limits Toxic Lead in Baby Foods

The Food and Drug Administration has set maximum levels for lead in baby foods as part of an effort to cut exposure to toxic metal.

The types of food includes jarred fruits and vegetables, yogurts and dry cereal.

The levels will be voluntary for food manufacturers but will allow the FDA to step in if foods exceed the levels. 

Leigh Frame is an associate professor of clinical research and leadership at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and co-director of the GW Resiliency and Well-being Center. She recently published a study looking into heavy metal contamination in coco products.

Monika Goyal is an associate professor of pediatrics at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
