June 6, 2025

bill recently introduced in the Senate could allow for the operation of civil supersonic flights in the United States. A Colorado-based organization is already developing the first supersonic passenger plane, opening the US skies up to faster air travel in the near future.

Jungho Suh, a teaching assistant professor of management at the George Washington University School of Business, is an expert in sustainability and environmental, social, and governance reporting in the travel industry and digital platforms in tourism and hospitality.

"Supersonic travel signals ambition, but we must ask: at what cost? Without addressing noise pollution, environmental impact, and inequitable access, speed becomes a superficial gain,” said Suh. “Future aviation must prioritize not just innovation but also inclusion—shared value over elite velocity. If not, we risk repeating old mistakes at a faster pace."
