Media Tip Sheet: Gun Violence Prevention Month

June 16, 2025

June is nationally recognized as Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about gun violence, honor victims and survivors, and advocate for solutions to prevent future tragedies.

In the U.S., gun violence claims the lives of approximately 48,000 people every year, according to the CDC.

Elizabeth Choma, clinical assistant professor at the George Washington University School of Nursing, is a pediatric nurse practitioner whose work focuses on firearm safety education in families. She can discuss this gun violence in the U.S., statistics about having firearms in your home and the importance of keeping your guns secure.

If you would like to schedule an interview with Elizabeth Choma, please contact Katelyn Deckelbaum, katelyn [dot] deckelbaumatgwu [dot] edu (katelyn[dot]deckelbaum[at]gwu[dot]edu).
