Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy, made headlines last week with a memo to employees stating that AI will lead to a reduction in the company’s corporate workforce. As Amazon leans into AI for efficiency, from warehouse robotics to software development, the announcement spurred concerns about whether AI will add or subtract jobs from the market.
Tech leaders, such as Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei, warn that AI-driven unemployment could spike dramatically in the next few years.
Patrick Hall, a teaching assistant professor of decision sciences at the George Washington University School of Business, is available to comment. Hall is a national leader in AI governance and co-founder of BNH.AI, a boutique law firm focused on AI risk. He has helped shape responsible AI frameworks at companies like H2O.ai and through federal initiatives such as NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework.
