Media Tip Sheet: Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September 17, 2025

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to increase pediatric cancer awareness, support families facing childhood cancer and inspire funding for research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support.

Each year, nearly 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States.

Catherine Bollard is the associate center director for the George Washington University Cancer Center and is a professor of pediatrics and microbiology, immunology and tropical medicine. She leads clinical and research efforts to fight cancer and other inflammatory diseases by strengthening the immune system using adoptive cell therapy.

Bollard is available to discuss advances in pediatric cancer research, the promise of immunotherapy, and the importance of supporting children and families affected by cancer.
