WASHINGTON (January 27, 2025) – A social media addiction trial begins today at Los Angeles Superior Court in California. The plaintiff alleges that social media had a negative impact on her mental health. This case is one of many lawsuits currently challenging Meta, ByteDance and Google.
Mark Anne Franks, Eugene L. and Barbara A. Bernard Professor in Intellectual Property, Technology, and Civil Rights Law at the George Washington University Law School. Franks is an expert on civil rights, free speech, and technology. In an interview for BBC, Franks noted that tech executives "are often not good under pressure" and shared that the companies involved were "very much much hoping" they’d avoid leadership having to testify.
