Media Tip Sheet: Layoffs Within News Outlets Add To New Era For the Industry

WASHINGTON (February 4, 2026) – The Washington Post will begin a widespread round of layoffs on Wednesday, as many other news outlets are changing how they provide their daily news. For publications like the Washington Post, it has become increasingly difficult to keep audiences interested in print media. CBS also announced several layoffs and hired commentators to help increase public trust from audiences.

Imani Cheers is an associate professor of digital storytelling at the GW School of Media and Public Affairs. Dr. Cheers is an award-winning digital storyteller, director, producer, and filmmaker. Senso’s journalism career spanning four decades has put him at the forefront of major events, including presidential campaigns and debates, superpower summits, and conflicts worldwide.
