Media Tip Sheet: Virginia Redistricting Results

April 22, 2026

WASHINGTON (April 22, 2026) – On Tuesday, Virginia voters approved a redistricting plan that now could lead to Democrats gaining four additional seats in the U.S House in November’s midterm elections. The constitutional amendment will allow the use of new districts to be drawn by Virginia’s General Assembly. Republicans are arguing that it is unfair to gerrymander Virginia’s districts to favor Democrats, while Democrats argue that they are leveling the playing field.
