Media Tip Sheet: SCOTUS Abortion Pill Ruling

May 5, 2026

WASHINGTON (May 5, 2026) – The Supreme Court decided to temporarily preserve access to the abortion pill mifepristone. The Court’s move pauses a lower court ruling that could have restricted nationwide access.

Sonia M. Suter, a professor at the George Washington University Law School and a leading scholar in health law and bioethics, is available to comment on the legal and policy implications of this decision. She can speak to how this case fits into ongoing challenges to FDA authority, what it means for the Court to act through interim orders rather than a full opinion, and how telehealth and interstate care continue to complicate the legal landscape post-Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
