WASHINGTON (Nov. 13, 2017)—Lindsay Hamilton joined the George Washington University as its chief spokesperson and executive director of media relations, the university announced Monday. Ms. Hamilton, a GW alumna, will oversee its media strategy and activities. She also will advise GW’s president, provost and leadership on media strategy and lead the media-training program for university faculty and key staff and student leaders.
Ms. Hamilton joins GW’s Office of Media Relations from the Center for American Progress, a think tank in Washington, D.C., where she was chief of staff and a vice president, working closely with the center’s president and leadership on institutional priorities and high-profile projects. Prior to that she was director of media strategy at the center, overseeing broadcast media relations and media training for the organization.
“It’s a privilege to return to a place that means so much to me. I know firsthand that history is made on this campus and I look forward to working with students, faculty and staff to promote GW in the media,” Ms. Hamilton said.
Previously, Ms. Hamilton worked on Capitol Hill, serving in roles in both the House and the Senate. She was the communications director and on-the-record spokesperson for Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), a 1982 GW alumnus. She also worked as his campaign manager during the 2010 election cycle. Her first job after graduating from GW was in the office of Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.).
Ms. Hamilton also worked at ABC News in both New York City and Washington, D.C. She worked on “World News Tonight” and “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” where she produced the show’s Sunday Funnies segment. She also regularly wrote politics and news stories for ABCNews.com.
“I am so happy we could lure Lindsay back to GW. Her wide range of media, Washington, international and leadership experience will be a great asset to the division of External Relations and the university. As an alumna, Lindsay will be able promote GW research and scholarship with a special perspective,” Lorraine Voles, GW’s vice president for external relations, said.
Ms. Hamilton earned a B.A. in international affairs and political science from the Elliott School of International Affairs at GW. She earned her master’s degree in international affairs with a concentration in international media and communications from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. She is originally from Omaha, Nebraska.
