EVENT:
Americans have been simultaneously amazed and frightened by chat-bots that use artificial intelligence (AI) to do research, create artwork and stories, and organize everyday life. These new forms of "generative AI" have “democratized” access to AI, but they raise questions about what role this emerging technology should play in our economy and in policy.
In collaboration with The George Washington University, the Penn West Equity and Innovation District is hosting a discussion on April 27, 2023, to examine these very questions as well as to explore trustworthy AI and the top-of-mind considerations to advance AI successfully and responsibly.
The panel features David Broniatowski, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering at GW, Dr. Benjamin Harvey, CEO of AI Squared, and Pamela K. Isom, CEO of IsAdvice & Consulting and the former executive director of the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Office at the U.S. Department of Energy. Susan Ariel Aaronson, director of the Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub and research professor of international affairs at GW, will moderate the discussion. Topics include what trustworthy AI is, the potential risks and rewards of AI, existing AI governance models, and critical activities underway to enable trustworthy AI today and in the future.
The event is being sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, and the Washington DC Economic Partnership.
