University Statement Regarding NLRB Notice to Cancel RA Unionization Election

May 3, 2017

We are pleased with SEIU Local 500's request to withdraw the petition to hold an election and the NLRB's decision to grant the request.

The university values our undergraduate students who participate as resident advisors in providing peer-to-peer leadership, support and mentorship for other undergraduate students who live in our residence halls.  As we have stated, it does not make sense to apply a federally regulated system of collective bargaining to undergraduate students who are participating for a limited period of time in a program as part of their educational experience.

We look forward to working closely with our resident advisors to continue to enhance our residential life program and ensure resident advisors have the support needed as they serve in this important educational leadership role.
