Update on GW Student Engagement Efforts

May 10, 2024

This morning, GW officials sent the following invitation to select registered student organizations in good standing with the university. Moving forward, other groups will receive similar invitations.

Dear Student Groups,

As a registered student organization in good standing with the university that represents GW Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim students, GW invites you to engage in a dialogue regarding concerns raised during recent protests in a mutually respectful environment.

This meeting's purpose is for President Ellen Granberg, Provost Chris Bracey, Chief Financial Officer Bruno Fernandes, and me to hear directly from your organization's student representatives. We are open to dialogue regarding broad community concerns, including free speech and Islamophobia on campus. We also want to make clear in advance that the university is not considering changes to our endowment investment strategy, academic partnerships, or established SRR processes.

This conversation has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. today and is slated for 45 minutes. Please reply to this email with the name of one registered student in good standing who will represent your organization, and we will be in contact regarding the meeting’s location. Given the heightened security due to events on campus, a valid GWorld card will be required for admittance to the meeting.

Sincerely,

Colette Coleman

Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
