WASHINGTON (July 1, 2025) – The Senate on Tuesday passed legislation that includes altering spending for border security, cuts to Medicaid, and new tax breaks. The bill now must be passed by the House to get to the Oval Office, with the president ordering lawmakers to have it on his desk by the 4th of July.

Casey Burgat is an associate professor at the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management. Leighton Ku, a professor of health policy and management and Director of the Center for Health Policy Research at the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health, is a health policy researcher and public policy analyst. He is an expert in national and state health reforms, and how to improve access to affordable health care for vulnerable populations. His research with the Commonwealth Fund indicates the legislation would eliminate millions of jobs and shrink state economies by billions of dollars.
Alison Barkoff, is the Harold and Jane Hirsh associate professor of health law and policy at the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health. She is a nationally recognized expert in health law and policy and can discuss access to healthcare, insurance and other issues.
Richard Ricciardi is associate dean for Clinical Practice and Community Engagement in the GW School of Nursing and the executive director for the Center for Health Policy and Media Engagement.
